Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Bethlehem House. Our small staff distributes over 50,000 pounds of food through our programs. Volunteers play a vital role in supporting every aspect of Bethlehem House’s daily operations, from working directly with homeless and extremely low-income program guests, to helping organize donations of food and hygiene products and even providing administrative assistance. Having volunteers work the “front lines” of our programs allows them to see firsthand how Bethlehem House meets the immediate needs of the families and individuals served. Volunteers have been the lifeblood of Bethlehem House. We always welcome new friends to come, enjoy, be with us, and reflect on the work we have done together.
Please read this page carefully before beginning the volunteer application below. Thank you!
We do our best to accommodate volunteer interest, but we ask for your patience as we process your application. Everyone who volunteers with us must fill out a volunteer form. (See Volunteer application below)
Our community dinner is more than just a delicious meal. It’s a time to share stories and celebrate community. At Bethlehem House, we believe that feeding the needy is part of serving one another and as we serve others we are serving Christ.
- Dinner starts at 6:00 p.m. everyday.
- We run an average of 60 people each evening.
- You are welcome to use our facilities to prepare food or you can bring your food ready to be served. Our kitchen opens at 4:30 if you need to use our facility to prepare.
- We have dishes but you are welcome to bring paper products to make clean up easier.
- Any leftover food can stay at the shelter & be eaten for lunch the next day by residents.
If you have any additional questions about this program, please contact the meal coordinator at email@example.com
Individuals who are 18 or older are encouraged to fill out a volunteer application with their interest.
We welcome groups to volunteer at Bethlehem House. While we may not always have an area that a large group can work there are times where there are opportunities available. Some opportunities include summer yard work, cleaning kitchen and dining room, assembling hygiene bags and breaking down bulk food for food boxes. After filling out an application, please contact the volunteer coordinator firstname.lastname@example.org to see if there is an opportunity available. These projects are scheduled on a case-by-case basis.
Bethlehem House welcomes volunteers who have special skills to contribute to our mission. We are especially in need of assistance with administrative work at our office on 1115 Parkway Street. Volunteers are welcomed during our normal office hours (8 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday). Weekend opportunities are available on a case-by-case basis.
All volunteers are encouraged to dress modestly. Please note that clothes may be ruined with bleach or food stains.
- A shirt with sleeves (short sleeves are okay, but underarms must not show)
- Closed-toed shoes that have a good grip if working in kitchen
