Safe Shelter

We provide housing for up to two years for individuals and families focused on improving their life situations and leaving homelessness behind. Our facility offers a safe environment by providing private rooms containing four beds each that are gender specific. There are shared bathrooms in each hall. Families are provided private rooms with cribs, changing tables, and a private bathroom. The house has 24-hour staffing and monitored security.

Case Management + Life Skills

Each resident has a Case Manager and receives an Individualized Service Plan (ISP) based on their circumstances. Case Managers work one-on-one with residents to understand their values and to set and prioritize goals.

Transportation

When your immediate struggle is what you will eat and where you will sleep, trying to figure out how to get to work, interviews, or doctor's appointments can be overwhelming. Our staff and volunteers provide residents with reliable transportation to approved destinations inclcluding work, interviews, and doctors appointments. Our van runs 24 hours a day, accommodating all shifts of up to 38 residents.

Classes

Our program's core classes and focus are Life skills, which include managing money, shopping, cooking, running a house, and maintaining social networks. Life skills training is different from support, help, or assistance in that the aim is to promote self-sufficiency.

Life skills classes have three broad categories:

Core or fundamental skills (classes on numeracy, literacy, and information technology)

Independent living skills (classes on managing a household, parenting, budgeting, professionalism, appointment keeping, contracting services, dealing with bills and correspondence)

Social skills (classes on interpersonal skills, gratitude, boundaries, conflict resolution, addiction and recovery, effects of social media, anger management, developing self-confidence).

Meals

A commercial kitchen in the Bethlehem House facility allows staff members to prepare and cook three meals daily, 365 days a year, for each resident. Food items are donated or purchased using funding from proposals and grants.
